The heat is on!

I stepped out of my building today and was shocked to find that overnight NYC went from a winter wonderland to some sort of muggy warmish purgatory. Seriously, the change in weather made my inherent fear of summer heat come out of it's winter slumber! I plan for months what I will wear when the weather is nice and the thin girls are wearing their tank tops, but I wasn't ready to feel the heat so early this year... I am wearing a huge wool coat and sweating my ass of in it today!

And please, no comments about how I can wear tank tops even though I am fat ... I am attached to my arms and have to occasionally look at them, and I'll tell you right now that they are not ready for short sleeves!

Isn't winter weather supposed to last until May in New York City?

So, in conclusion, President Bush, global warming is real, it's queer, get used to it!

I'm so happy that there is another person out there who knows that fat arms just don't always look good in a tank top. I understand that there are some fat girls out there with nice looking arms, but hats off to you for knowing what you look and feel good in! BRAVO SISTER!

My upper arms have never seen the light of day. I scour shops near and wide every spring to get a collection of 3/4 sleeve shirts to last me until the late fall.

I wear tanks and a short sleeve shirt over that all year around in public. at home i let it all hang out!! being cool is a fat girls goal, hard to achieve sometimes. i also believe shout wipes are a big girls best friend. for all those food spills that hit the bust area!!

You're fretting over wearing a tank top??

Geez, I bet you'd pop a vein if you saw me in my fabulous bikini poolside in Vegas!

I've never gone sleeveless in public. And until I get to the gym to do some serious toning, I don't think I plan to. Sitting around my apartment in a tank top with one or two very close friends around, or just my boyfriend, is one thing: showing my upper arms to strangers on the streets of Manhattan? Quite another.

But I think we're in luck, because of all the light shrugs and cardigans that are in fashion at present. I'm already stocking up, and summer won't hit Portland for some time (nor will I be back in Manhattan for awhile): cotton cardigan with elbow-length sleeves in several colors, crochet shrug, crochet cardigan...I like that there seem to be a lot of options available at present. Because you will not be seeing my upper arms, but I would *prefer* not to be sweltering hot and/or deeply out of step with summer fashion.

I know there are plenty of fat girls whose upper arms are great, lovely and soft and round...I am just not one of those girls. Mine are rolly and hangy and gross, and they will not be making a public appearance this summer.

yes - a bit of a tan helps, but I still understand your reluctance to bear those arms. I won't take off the "jacket" - people think I didn't shave that day. I just let them think that. ha!

I'm 180 and don't have any major hangups about my body, and I don't wear sleeveless. I just like to be more covered up.

I do wear tanks but with a loose linen shirt over them - it's cooler than going barearmed anyway, and you don't risk a sunburn!
