Furthermore, while living in a climate that necessitates the occasional use of cardigans, I wouldn't be seen dead in a shiny synthetic anything; I'm far too busy strutting my funky stuff in my natural fibres, thanks.Buttercup Rockshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08929261555166423769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14578627.post-84961540127434948032007-02-03T18:32:00.000-08:002007-02-03T18:32:00.000-08:00While things may be far from perfect on the plus-s... While things may be far from perfect on the plus-sized clothing front in the US, they're infinitely worse in Europe, choice and price-wise.

Aw, Puffy, you don't need a professional wardrobe. Perhaps it's dependant on whereabouts in the US you live but, personally, I've bought scads of fabulous clothes in cotton, linen and silk when I've been over visiting friends in the South. Admittedly it's slightly harder to find natural fabrics during the winter months but it's certainly possible. I swear by Nordstrom but I'm reliably informed that Macy's in New York boasts an extensive plus-sized department with collections offered by many upmarket labels not generally known for plus-sizes.Buttercup Rockshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08929261555166423769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14578627.post-70894056197771105902007-02-03T14:33:00.000-08:002007-02-03T14:33:00.000-08:00There is an interesting* post about professional-l...There is an interesting* post about professional-looking clothes in larger sizes on Alas a Blog (sorry, I don't know how to link to it).

*Interesting, because some of the comments face up to the unwelcome fact that the reason manufacturers don't make high quality clothes in a wide range of sizes is that there isn't enough profit to be made. There's just no way round this. If you want natural fibres - wool, linen, silk - and good cutting and tailoring, and you are taller, shorter, wider or narrower than the most profitable section of the market, the only answer is to have your clothes made to measure. Manufacturers can't take the risk of having large stocks of high-cost garments unsold at the end of the season. But since polyester and overseas mass-production are both cheap, there will always be lots of shapeless shiny stuff to choose from.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14578627.post-28178898065537595082007-02-03T11:50:00.000-08:002007-02-03T11:50:00.000-08:00I must say, with a cardigan and flip flops, I look...I must say, with a cardigan and flip flops, I look cute at work.

And I must say - you are in denial.
